The Alabama Republican Party frequently honors Rising Republican Stars from throughout the state. Many of the outstanding conservative leaders they’ve recognized are heavily involved in one of Alabama’s YR clubs. Ryan is ALGOP’s Rising Republican Star for May 28, 2012.

Captain Ryan Jones
U.S. Army Reserve Officer and YRFA State Vice-Chairman

Ryan is a 30 year old native of Birmingham, Alabama. Ryan joined the United States Army Reserve in 1999 just prior to graduation from Hoover High School.

He completed his Initial Entry Training for the military shortly before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In November of that year he deployed to Kuwait in support of the Coalition Forces Land Component Command.

Shortly after returning home he began work with the Alabama Republican Party as a Media Relation Assistant during the 2002 election cycle.

In the years following his work with the state party Ryan focused on serving his community and was presented the Outstanding Enlisted Representative Award by Governor Bob Riley.

Since 2006 Ryan given time to various community service and charitable activities throughout Alabama including service as a volunteer sheriff’s deputy with the Jefferson County Air Support Unit.

He also chaired a Visiting Allocation Team for the United Way Charities of Central Alabama, and serving on the Young Leadership Board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama.

In 2011 Ryan founded the Red Shoe Society junior board of the Augusta Georgia Ronald McDonald House.

Ryan graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts in International Relations.

In July of 2008 he was commissioned into the United States Army as a second lieutenant.

He has recently been promoted to the rank of Captain and currently serves in the operations section of the Military Intelligence Readiness Command as the Mobilization Officer.

The Young Republican Federation of Alabama elected Ryan to be State Vice Chairman in 2009.

Working under the leadership of State Young Republican Chairman Chris Brown, Ryan was part of the leadership team which saw the State Young Republican Organization expand into west and north central Alabama.

Later that year Ryan was appointed to the Jefferson Country Republican Party Executive Committee from House District 44.

He is currently an elected delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention.
